Rodeo Girl.

Hat, horse print top and denim is what a new age Rodeo Girl like Shan Yu wears nowadays. The Raffles Design School student shows that anyone can pull it off as long as your makeup isn't too thick and a laid-back mood is all you need. Her oriental features sure gives an interesting twist to the East meets West combi. Born in China, Shan Yu bought her hat and top from Zara, jeans from Bangkok and vintage platform shoes from Hong Kong. 

Her favourite item from the look - her shoes of course. She's a fan of velvet, a material that is not often used to make shoes. It is indeed rare to find velvet shoes. The fabric's unique texture gives a more intense colour but it also requires an extra effort keep it away from stains and water.

Ritual Revisited.

Say hello to one of the most versatile pieces in my wardrobe - Sleeveless Drape Jacket from local label, young&restless's Autumn Winter 2010 collection, Ritual. Besides wearing it as a jacket (which creates an über dramatic effect getting caught in the wind), it can be easily turned into a dress by adding a belt (which also creates an über dramatic effect getting caught in the wind but less) and here's the proof, my once in a lifetime ELLE.com Fashion Week moment (also on my Facebook page)! I am still exploring more ways to wear it, most probably as a maxi skirt or pants, maybe?

When is comes to a B&W look, graphic and geometry details come into play. Just like a B&W photograph, the eye goes straight to the lines and patterns. So stick to streamlined silhouettes and clean cut pieces, and add on a graphic piece to make it playful. Also, give the overall ensemble a twist with a touch of colour (just one will do): in this case, at the bottom with pastel-coloured shoes. What makes these gentlemen's outfit in B&W so complete? Their jet black Asian hair.
